1. GRIPFAST® anti slip panels can be fixed to virtually any
structurally sound and level substrate. If the surface is not sound
and level however, remedial works may be required. *Please note that Polydeck Limited takes no
responsibility for product failure due to poor substrate
conditions.
2. If possible, prior to installation, lay the panels out in
place to check they fit properly. Once you are happy you can carry
out the fixing.
IF FIXING TO CONCRETE
1. The recommended methodology for fitting to concrete is to use
both an MS Polymer adhesive mastic and mechanical fixings.
2. Lay the panels into position, drill through the panel with a
masonary drill bit. Lift the panels and insert plugs.
3. Fixing positions should be placed 50mm in from the edge and at
approximately 300mm centres thereafter (see drawing).
4. Apply the adhesive / mastic in a bead to the underside (non
gritted side) of the panel 25mm in from all edges and in a in wave
pattern across the whole panel (see drawing).
5. Lay the panels into place, taking care to line up with the plugs
and screw the panels into place with 1.5" no.10 stainless steel
screws.
6. If laying multiple panels allow a nominal 5mm - 8mm gap between
each panel edge and fill the gap with the MS Polymer mastic.
7. If required, lay a bead of MS Polymer mastic around the outer
edge of the panel to stop water ingress.
IF FIXING TO TIMBER
1. Installation is the same as for concrete, but plugs are not
required.
2. Use 1.5” No. 10 Stainless Steel woodscrew .
3. If fitting to a particularly hard hardwood, it is sometimes
necessary to pre-drill the timber to reduce chances of shearing off
the stainless screw.
IF FIXING TO CHEQUERPLATE & FLAT
STEEL
1. The recommended methodology for fitting to steel is to use both
an MS Polymer adhesive mastic and mechanical fixings.
2. Apply the bead of mastic to the underside of the panel as
outlined above.
3. Lay the panels into place. Note that chequer plate/ mild steel
will generally not need to be pre drilled and plugs are not
required.
4. Using a powered screwdriver hold the fixing true and slowly
start the fixing turning. This will cut through the GRIPFAST®
and start to cut into the metal.
5. Once swarf comes to the surface, increase the drill speed until
the fixing is tight and securely holds the panel in place.
6. Repeat as necessary until the whole panel is firm with no
movement.
7. Should access be possible underneath knock off protruding studs
from the underside of the substrate.
Recommended fixings are as
follows:
STAINLESS STEEL
1. Stainless Self tapper supplied standard size of No10 x
1.25” (other sizes are available but may be subject to
special price and delivery.)
2. Stainless Steel Tek Screw. These are supplied 5mm x 40mm. For
instructions on use please refer to section on Self Drilling
Fixings.
3. Aluminium rivet. The size of our standard rivets is 4.8 X 18mm.
(Please note: not suitable in the food industry as the hole in the
top constitutes a bug trap.)
CARBON STEEL
1. Use fixings for stainless steel and also the cfl 32 tek
screw.
2. Should security be an issue then a torx headed tek can be
supplied.
3. Please note the 32 tek screw has been salt water spray tested to
700 hours but will rust in wet conditions and is not acceptable in
the food industry.
FIXING DETAILS
SELF TAPPERS / RIVETS
1. Pre drill the Gripfast® with a masonry bit to the size
needed. (ordinarily 4.5 – 5mm)
2. using a hss or similar drill bit (cobalt is very good ) drill
through the steel. Cutting oil can be used to prolong the life of
the bit but this would need to be approved by the client.
3. Fit the fixing in the appropriate manner.
4. As with all mechanical fixings once they have been fitted they
need to be checked that they are secure.
IF FIXING TO OPEN GRATING
:
1. If fixing to open grating we recommend the use of 'U' Clamps and
integral locking nut.
2. Use approximately 10 clamps per square metre of Gripfast.
3 It is important to make a template for the hole centres so that
they match the grating pattern and also miss the structural
sections on the grating.
4. Pre-drill GRIPFAST® as previously described.
5. Insert bolt through hole and locate into “U” clamp
and tighten then fit the nut to the thread below the clamp and
tighten to secure the fixing.
